April 22, 1937 ~ January 7, 2017 (age 79)

Betty A. Ryherd, age 79, of Alta, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Unity Point Health – Fort Dodge of Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Betty Ann (Werkmeister Hoffard) Ryherd was born in Early, Iowa, to Clifford and Minnie (Palm) Werkmeister. Betty worked at the Methodist Manor for seventeen years as well as on the farm with her husband, Floyd. In addition, she babysat her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting afghans for her grandchildren and, especially, playing BINGO on Tuesday nights in Holstein.

She is survived by four children, Donna (Hoffard) Kohn, and her friend, Gale Demanett, of Alta, Iowa, Robert Hoffard, of Coralville, Iowa, Jana Kruelzfeldt, of Alta, Iowa, Ronnie Ryherd, and his friend, Cinda Purgett, of Holstein, Iowa, and Doug Ryherd, and his friend, Dee Ramsey, of Excello, Missouri; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie TenEyck, of Valley, Nebraska; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine Hast, Norma and Jim Fink, and Janice and Tom Pester, all of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Janice Hoffard, of Sac City, Iowa, Buzz and Lois Hoffard, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Don and Jill Ryherd, of Missouri, Ken and Kate Ryherd, of Mitchellville, Iowa, Sara and Arlo Lorenzen, of Illinois, Bill and Jeri Ryherd, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Hank and Pat Ryherd, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Charles and Pat Ryherd, of Alta, Iowa; as well as by several nieces and nephews, some calling her “Uncle Betty;” and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert, and her second husband, Floyd; her parents; her parents-in-law; her son, Steven; a brother; four sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 10:00 AM at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Alta with the Rev. Ryan Roehrig officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery of Early. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.

Betty will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her.
