Connie Lee Hoch
July 23, 1939 - January 17, 2017

Surrounded by her husband, Robert (Bob) Hoch, and their two sons, Jeff and Curt Hoch, Connie Lee Hoch, age 77, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the Methodist Manor of Storm Lake.

The younger half-sister of Doreen (Hadden) Fredrickson and the older sister of Dave (Jean) Hadden, Connie was born to Edward and Edna (Schroeder) Hadden on July 23, 1939, in Alta, Iowa. Subsequently, she graduated from Alta High school and attended some college. In 1964, while out with friends at The Cobblestone in Storm Lake, Connie danced her way into the heart of Bob Hoch, a young man whom she married on July 9, 1965. In time, she became the proud mother to two boys, Jeff and Curt Hoch, and an even prouder grandmother of five beautiful granddaughters. She loved her family and happily spent time with them.

One word best sums up Connie’s work ethic: service. Connie loved serving others. Indeed, she spent over twenty-five years working at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake as a CNA, taking care of the many residents. During her career at the Manor, she served numerous people, treating each one with dignity and respect. Even after leaving the Manor, she continued visiting with and helping the many friends she had made while working there. Always willing to help, she, gladly, spent time with senior citizens in need. Moreover, she continued this practice until she suffered a stroke in July, 2012. In addition, she worked at the Goodwill in Storm Lake where she enjoyed cleaning up old treasures, organizing the store, and developing relationships with customers and staff alike.

Connie loved to clean and enjoyed working at The Storm Lake Wal-Mart in the maintenance department. Oftentimes, she received praise from management and the public alike for how clean she kept the store. She took great pride in knowing that even at 70 years of age, she could out clean and outwork any of the younger staff. She greatly enjoyed doing a job well, and she made many memorable friends while working there.

Together, Connie and Bob enjoyed traveling, attending cook off competitions to cheer on their son, Curt, as he competed. As her granddaughters grew, Connie enjoyed traveling to Wisconsin to watch Hannah, Abby, Grace, Faith, and Sophia at special school and community events. Connie, also, enjoyed spending time with her daughter-in-law, Annette Hoch. Connie was always amazed by and grateful for the wonderful kindness and generosity she received from Annette. From beautiful handmade quilts to delicious food, Connie felt very blessed to have such a wonderful daughter-in-law.

Connie loved Christmas and enjoyed being able to give her granddaughters money that had she saved all year long. She, once, stated that shopping for five girls was something only a mother could do. In addition, Connie and Bob, always, enjoyed decorating their house for the holidays, both inside and out. They loved weekends and had a lifetime of fond memories, dancing together at the Elks Lodge or in their living room and spending time with friends.

Connie is survived by Bob, her devoted husband of fifty-one years; her sons, Jeff (Annette) Hoch and Curt Hoch; and her granddaughters, Hannah (Donald) Hickok and Abby, Faith, Grace, and Sophia Hoch; her sister-in-law, Jean (Dave) Hadden; and her niece, Loreen (Fredrickson) Moneypenny.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
