Mary Margaret Ravenscroft
July 16, 1939 - November 30, 2016

Mary Margaret Ravenscroft passed away on November 30, 2016, in Lincoln, Nebraska, with her three children at her side. She was born on July 16, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio.

Mary enjoyed a thirty-year career in the Storm Lake School system, a fitting occupation for a life-long children’s advocate. She often said every child should get a chance, and no child deserves to suffer. Indeed, she, very much, enjoyed volunteering to buy warm winter coats and clothing for children in need and discreetly arranging for delivery to their homes. As an active organizer and volunteer in the early days of the 4th of July Star Spangled Spectacular, she enjoyed watching the festival grow and seeing former students return to Storm Lake to spend time with their families. She enjoyed rich friendships with people of all ages whom she knew well through her Wilshire Arms community, the school system, card clubs, birthday clubs, and many volunteer activities through her forty-five years of living in Storm Lake. Most of all, however, she cherished her own children, their spouses, and her grandchildren, always beaming with pride while telling people about them.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Scott); her sons, Bob (Karen) and Scott (Joey); her grandchildren Emma, Grace, Paige, Piper, Sarah, and Simon; seven siblings; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Jane Groff; a brother; and two infant sons.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Tabitha who provided outstanding care and enriched her last year through friendship and conversation. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial gifts in her name for Tabitha Hospice or the Mary Ravenscroft Memorial Scholarship (to benefit academically deserving and financial needy graduates of Storm Lake High School). Checks may be made out to the Tabitha Foundation or the Dollars for Scholars.
