Roger Dean Botine, 75, of West Okoboji, formerly of Storm Lake, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at the Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Roger was born on December 18, 1940, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to August and Anna (Kramer) Botine. He graduated from Storm Lake High School and attended the Dunwoody Institute. On October 16, 1960, he married Elaine Spooner at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. He owned and operated Botine Electric, Inc., in Storm Lake for many years. During his time in Storm Lake, he, also, served as the Mayor of Lakeside for ten years. After he suffered a heart attack in 1995, however, he and Elaine moved to Spirit Lake. After getting on his feet again, he began working for Fisherman’s Factory Outlet while Elaine worked for the Fareway in Spirit Lake for fifteen years.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji. The Area and Zone Chairman for Ducks Unlimited for North-West Iowa, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Roger valued spending time with family. Indeed, he, particularly, treasured the time he took his grandchildren on picnics. He, also, enjoyed cooking for his friends.

Roger is survived by his wife, Elaine Botine, of West Okoboji; his son, David Botine, of West Okoboji; his daughter, Ann Marie Botine, of Milford; four grandchildren, January, Dean, Abigayle, and Jessica; five great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Madison, Elijah, Jace, and JJ with one more on the way; and his brother, Richard (Pat) Botine, of Storm Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji on Saturday, October 29, 2016, with Revs. Perry Aalgaard and Bob Vaage officiating. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday, October 28, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. The Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.
