Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Thu, Sep 8, 1966 - Raymond Leonard Conrad, only child of Charles E and Ruth Mabel Egerer Conrad was born May 13, 1908 in Storm Lake. He passed away on Sept 2, 1966 at the age of 58 years, three months, and 19 days.
His entire life was spent in Storm Lake except for a period when he served with the armed forces during WW II, a little over two years, most of which time was spent overseas as a member of Battery B. He was awarded decorations and citations of three overseas bars, Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal and WW II Victory Medal.
For approximately 40 years he conducted a popcorn business and was the sole support of his mother from early manhood.
Preceding him in death were both of his parents and one uncle Roland Egerer of Seattle, WA.
He leaves to mourn two aunts: Elsie and Eunice Egerer of Asotin, WA; Annie Newen and Mrs Edith (Norman) Pike of Storm Lake, Mrs Olive (Milan) Wheelwright of Des Moines, Glen Rolan of Clinton, cousins; also Mrs Geraldine (LeRoy) Fournier of Mason City who lived in their home a number of years when a child.
Raymond will be remembered by his many friends as "Connie" the Popcorn Man.
Funeral services were held Sept 5 in the First Methodist church. Active attendants were Ted McDiarmid, Ray Kurtz, Keith Gregg, Gordon Abels, Milo Pedersen, and Vern Davis. Interment was in the Storm Lake Cemetery.
