John R. Brumm
July 18, 1932 - September 2, 2016

John Roman Brumm, age 84, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, September 2, 2016, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

A son of Lawrence and Sabina (Mullenbach) Brumm, John Brumm was born on July 18, 1932, in Meyer, Iowa. Baptized as an infant at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer and later confirmed there as well, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Meyer. On August 18, 1953, he married Mary Teresa Kasel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Subsequently, they were blessed with ten children: Karen, Darryl, Donna, Scott, Carmen, Bruce, Nancy, Kurt, Mark, and Terry.

Throughout his life, John worked hard. He began by farming with his father for a few years while living in Meyer. Then, he took up driving truck, taking many long hauls as well as delivering the U.S. Mail to Des Moines and hauling gravel, livestock, and auto parts. In Osage, Iowa, John ran a Conoco gas station which included a tow truck service. Also while in Osage, he served as the president of the Jaycee’s.

In 1969, the family moved to Mason City, Iowa, where John worked as a salesman for International Harvester. Eventually, he delivered auto parts for Arnold Motor Supply. After his many endeavors, he retired in 1997. During this time, he enjoyed serving as an usher at Holy Family Catholic Church. In 2007, John and Mary moved to Storm Lake. A life-long Knights of Columbus member, he, currently, belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

John liked collecting John Deere memorabilia and had many toy model trucks. An avid Iowa State Cyclones and Minnesota Twins fan, he, also, enjoyed fishing, golfing, and sharpening blades. Most of all, however, he took a great deal of pride in his family and especially enjoyed the sixty-three years he spent with his loving wife, Mary. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Brumm, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Karen (Terry) Murray, also of Storm Lake, Iowa, Darryl (Kelly) Brumm, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Donna (Paul) Mueller, of Elsberry, Missouri, Scott (Brenda) Brumm, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Carmen (Al) Santee, of Ankeny, Iowa, Bruce Brumm, of Webster, Minnesota, Nancy (Mark) McEachran, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kurt (Brenda) Brumm, of Shawnee, Kansas, Mark (Crysti) Brumm, of Des Moines; Iowa, and Terry (Tara) Brumm, of Tarpon Springs, Florida; twenty-two grandchildren: Clinton, Elizabeth, Joel, Justine, Kate, Kyle, Rachel, Sammi, Zach, and Zane Brumm; Alecia and Andrea McEachran; Andrew and Travis Mueller; Becca, David, Jill, and Tony Murray; Amanda, Jason, Kelvin, and Steven Santee; seventeen great grandchildren; and his brother, Charles (Barb) Brumm, of McIntire, Iowa, and their children: Jennifer, Richard, Robert, Heidi, and Ryan; as well as extended family members and friends.
