Bonnie B. Blomberg
December 13, 1935 - August 28, 2016

Bonnie Blomberg, age 80, of Albert City, Iowa, died on August 28, 2016, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Bonnie Belle Anderson was born on December 13, 1935 in Dixon, Nebraska, to Lenus and Lillie (Olson) Anderson. Baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Free Church, she attended school in Laurel, Nebraska. After graduating, she enrolled at Grace Bible College in Omaha, Nebraska.

On February 16, 1956, Bonnie married Bennett Kulp in Sioux City, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: Kathy, Sue, Dwight, Jon, and Charlene. From 1967 to 1976, Ben and Bonnie served in Papua New Guinea with New Tribes Mission before returning to Iowa to make their home in Albert City. Unfortunately, Ben passed away in October, 1977. On December 26, 1983, Bonnie married Andrew (Andy) Blomberg in Albert City. With Bonnie’s five children and Andy’s three (Eric, Sara, and Amy), they always liked to joke that “Eight is Enough!”

Bonnie was passionate about serving God wherever He placed her, first as a dorm parent at the mission school in Papua New Guinea and later in Albert City where as a member of the Evangelical Free Church, she served with the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) and on the mission board. She, also, attended to the needs of many of the families of Albert City by caring for their children in her home daycare. Following Andy’s retirement, they spent a year in Papua New Guinea as well as several winters at the Bibleville Conference Center near Alamo, Texas, where Andy’s accounting skills and Bonnie’s sewing abilities were greatly appreciated.

In her spare time, Bonnie enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and baking for family and friends. She valued her family members and treasured spending time with them. Indeed, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Kathy (Steve) Claassen, of Aurora, Colorado, and their three children and five grandchildren; Sue (Kirk) Owens of Sanford, Florida, and their four children and eight grandchildren; Dwight (Lori) Kulp, of Albert City, Iowa, and their four children and three grandchildren; Jon (Melissa) Kulp, of Pocahontas, Iowa, and their two children; Charlene (Richard) VanAllen, of Sacramento, California, and their daughter; her stepchildren: Eric (Diane) Blomberg, of Omaha, Nebraska, and their two children; Sara (Dave) Braga, of Winterset, Iowa, and their three children and two grandchildren; and Amy (Ric) Bishop, of Shelbina, Missouri, and their two children; her brother-in-law, Chuck Binder; and her sister-in-law, Vivian Wilbur; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Lenus and Lillie Anderson; her brothers, Clifford and Virgil; her sisters, Dorothy Dyson and LaVonne Binder; and her husbands, Ben Kulp and Andy Blomberg.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. Memorials may be made to GoServ Global for Haiti. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
