STORM LAKE PILOT-TRIBUNE - Thu, Jan 19, 1950 - John Bracy Smith was born Nov 12, 1863 at Racine, WI and passed away at a local hospital on Saturday evening Jan 14 at the age of 88 years, 2 months, and 2 days.

The early part of his life was spent along the eastern seacoast, where he learned his profession of decorator. Afterward he traveled in the middle and southern states where he met Elmeda Mae Latch, to whom he was married at Brownsville, TN on April 11, 1896. With his family he moved from Illinois to Iowa in 1899, making the journey in a covered wagon. Storm Lake has been his home for the past 13 years.

His wife preceded him in death on March 28, 1937.

He is survived by four sons, Irving of Cedar Rapids; George of Chicago; Everett of Emmetsburg, and Lambert of Kerrville, TX; three daughters: Eva Gifford, Ada Kelsey, and Carrie Schilling, all of Kerrville, TX; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Services were Tuesday afternoon from the Hughes Funeral Home. Interment was in the Storm Lake cemetery.
