STORM LAKE REGISTER - Tue, Mar 30, 1937 - Alta - After an illness of many weary months, Mrs J.B. Smith passed away at her home in Alta Sunday evening. Death ensued the same day the funeral of her son-in-law Carl Gifford was held at Kerrville, Texas where he had passed away last week and Mrs Gifford is coming and will be here in time to attend the funeral.

Mrs Smith was a long time resident of Alta and Buena Vista county, her maiden name being Elmeda Mae Latch, daughter of Mr and Mrs J.T. Latch. She was born in Moultrie county, IL on Jan 17, 1877 and came to Iowa in Feb 1882. She married to John Bracy Smith on April 11, 1896, and died on March 28, 1937.

She is survived by her husband and 5 sons: Irving W of Cedar Rapids; George S of Laramie, WY; Everett E and Lambert E of Alta; and LeRoy E of Kerrville, TX; also three daughters Eva Gifford and Carrie Schilling of Kerrville, TX and Mrs Ada Kelsey of Schleswig. Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs Lydia Dinger of Alta and Mrs T.M. Lucas of Ayrshire; and one brother, James T Latch, of Grass Range, MT; and 5 grandchildren.
