Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune - Thu, Apr 12, 1945 - Mrs Mae C Sisson, surviving widow of E.R. Sisson, died in her home in Minneapolis on March 30, and funeral services were held at the Lakeside Presbyterian church on Thursday April 5.
Mae C Sisson was born May 7, 1861 at Shawneetown, IL. Her parents were Mr and Mrs Charles Carroll, her father being a grandson of the Charles Carroll who signed the constitution of the US at the time of its adoption in 1787.
She and her husband came to Storm Lake in 1886 and were active in the life of this community for many years. Mr Sisson was one of the first trustees of Buena Vista college and for many years was engaged in real estate operations.
Mrs Sisson was active in the social, church, and community life, was a member of the DAR, Eastern Star, and Mayflower club of Iowa. She was an active member of the Presbyterian church, one of the beautiful windows in that church being presented by Mr and Mrs Sisson.
Surviving her and present at the funeral were her daughter, Alice Sisson Wilcutt and her husband, Dr Clarence Wilcutt of Minneapolis, and their son, Ensingn Robert E Wilcut and his wife. Also her son, Hayden Sisson and his wife from Minneapolis were present.
The funeral party arrived at LeMars on the early morning train on April 4 but because of the storm were not able to get here until the evening train, so that it was necessary to postpone the funeral to the morning of the 5th. The body was brought to the Hughes funeral home. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the family lot at the cemetery.
Mrs Bessie G Higgins of Spencer, sister of Mrs Sisson, was in Salt Lake City, Utah and not able to be present.
