Storm Lake Register - Tue, Oct 25, 1938 - Tributes were paid to E.R. Sisson of Minneapolis, former resident and pioneer citizen of Storm Lake, Monday afternoon when funeral services were held at the Lakeside Presbyterian church. Mr Sisson had been in poor health for the past two years and passed away Saturday in Minneapolis. Interment was in the Lakeview cemetery.
Eugene Robert Sisson was born in Aberdeen, IN on June 25, 1858. When a small child he moved with his parents to Mason, IL. The late A.D. Bailie and he were playmates during childhood.
Mr Sisson was admitted to the bar in Illinois in 1884 and began to practice law in Storm Lake in 1886 at which time he was associated with Mr Bailie. Shortly afterwards he organized the Northwestern Land Company and went in to the real estate business on a large scale. He continued in this business until he moved from Storm Lake to Minneapolis.
He was a founder of Buena Vista college and was one of the first trustees. Mr Sisson was also a talented musician. He organized a band for men. At one time he was considered the best cornetist in the state of Iowa.
He was married to Miss May Carroll in 1886 and to their union a son and daughter were born.
Mr Sisson leaves to mourn his wife; his son, Hayden of LaGrange, IL; and daughter, Mrs C.E. Willcutt of Minneapolis. Four grandchildren: Peggy May Sisson, Robert, Clarence, and Charles Willcutt; also four sisters and two brothers.
The widow was in Storm Lake just a week ago attending the funeral of the late Mrs A.D. Bailie.
