Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune - Thu, Jun 23, 1949 - Funeral services for the late Charles Skewis, pioneer Storm Lake business man, will be held Saturday afternoon at the Storm Lake Methodist church. Mr Skewis passed away at the home of his daughter, Dorothy, at Detroit, MI Monday evening after an extended illness. He was 80 years old in February. The body was brought to Storm Lake today.

Mr Skewis came to Storm Lake in 1911. He was associated with the E.W. Oates and Co for a number of years. He did the contracting and building end of the business. Mr Skewis has built a number of homes in Storm Lake and about 13 years ago was the contractor in charge of the building of the Porath hospital. He was for many years secretary and active manager of the Storm Lake building & Loan association.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters: Dorothy of Detroit; Beth, Mrs William Bradley of West Inglewood, NJ; and Margaret, Mrs Rufus Rose of New London, CT; 5 grandchildren; one sister, Jennie Skewis; and four brothers: George of Whittier, CA; Will of Greenville; E.A. of Emmetsburg; and F.H. of Tacoma, WA.

One brother, E.J., preceded his in death recently and one sister, Mrs W.W. Pritchard, besides his parents.
