Pauline Elizabeth Jones
January 6, 1917 - June 12, 2016Pauline Jones, age 99, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Early, Iowa, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2016.
The oldest of three children, Pauline was born on January 6, 1917, to Paul and Elena Corrie on the Corrie farm in Ida County, Iowa. When she was five, her family moved to a farm near Bronson, Iowa. A teenager during the Great Depression with money in short supply, she always had plenty to eat on the farm. After graduating from Bronson High School in 1934, she attended Iowa State University before transferring to Wayne State College in Nebraska where she earned a two-year teaching certificate.
She met Alfred Jones while teaching elementary school in LeMars, Iowa. They married on October 27, 1944, after Al returned from a World War II tour of duty in the Aleutian Islands. After the War, they settled in Merrill, Iowa, where they owned and operated a general store. In 1956, they moved to Early and Pauline returned to her true love of teaching. She taught first grade many years in the Crestland School District, both in Nemaha and Early. She was always touched when former students, some many years out of high school, greeted her when their paths crossed. While teaching, she completed a four-year bachelor’s degree at Buena Vista College, receiving her diploma the same day her son graduated from Iowa State University.
A member of the Early Methodist Church for nearly sixty years, she had actively participated on various church committees and in several activities.
After Al’s death, Pauline moved into the Lake Pointe Villa in Storm Lake in 1997, becoming one of the original residents. Proud to have been in independent living at Lake Pointe Villa up until her passing, she enjoyed her freedom.
Pauline is survived by her son, Greg (Pat) Jones, of Stevensville, Montana; her daughter, Gail (Len) Iwinski, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her grandchildren: Lucas (Meghan) Jones, of Missoula, Montana; Coralynn (Ryan) Revis, and their daughter, Kinsley, also of Missoula, Montana; Allison (Matthew) Harrington, of Browning, Montana; and Matthew and Jeremiah Iwinski, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and her brother, Sam Corrie, of Bronson, Iowa. Always impressed with Pauline’s sharpness of mind, her grandchildren will remain grateful for her love and support. In addition, they all treasure the many books she gave them thereby instilling in them a life-long love of reading!
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; and her sister, Shirley Olson.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Early. Burial will follow at Early Union Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, June 17, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
