Dorothy Kennedy, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Dorothy Jean Franzmeier, a daughter of Walter and Edith (Beckfield) Franzmeier, was born on August 5, 1930, on a farm east of Albert City in Pocahontas County, Iowa. Baptized and later confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Varina, Iowa, Dorothy attended Albert City Consolidated School where she graduated in 1948. Then, she accepted a position at Citizen’s 1st National Bank where she became the first female assistant cashier. In 1969, she became an assistant vice president, and in 1975, she became cashier. In 1978, however, she resigned from Citizen’s 1st National Bank to spend more time with her family. On August 12, 1950, Dorothy married John William Kennedy at the Varina Methodist Church. Subsequently, they were blessed with one child, Susan Kay.

A member of United Methodist Church in Storm Lake and of the Buena Vista County Hospital Auxiliary, Dorothy served as treasurer of the hospital coffee shop as well. She enjoyed playing cards, spending her time with her family, and traveling. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Susan (Gene) Lloyd, of Alta, Iowa; her step-grandchildren: Darin (Laura) Lloyd, of Clare, Iowa, Heather (Tim) Goche, of Bancroft, Iowa, Trevor (Shelby) Lloyd, of Pineville, Louisiana, and Whitney Lloyd, (fiancé, Nick Ford), of Fort Dodge, Iowa; several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved; many step-great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; her grand dogs, Maggie, Bandit, and Angel, whom she dearly loved; her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Lael Lessmeier, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Robert Murphy, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Joe (Elaine) Kennedy, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Veronica Koebel, of Moville, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John Kennedy; her parents, Walter and Edith Franzmeier; her sisters: Frances Lessmeier and Gladys Murphy; her parents-in-law, Dan and Rosa Kennedy; her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Marie Kennedy; Patrick and Mary Opal Kennedy; Darnell and Frances Vernia; and Leo Koebel.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Monday, June 13, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Memorials may be designated to the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake or Unity Point Hospice. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
