Richard "Rich" Jarvis
February 27, 1962 - June 9, 2016

Richard Lee "Rich" Jarvis, age 54, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Richard Lee Jarvis, a son of Warren and Elizabeth (Jarvis) Cretsinger, was born in Sac City, Iowa, on February 27, 1962. Rich’s mother, Darlene Woulf, died when he was a teenager, and he came to love his second mother, Elizabeth Cretsinger.

Rich began his education in Sac City and later moved with his family to Newell, Iowa, where he graduated from Newell Providence High School. He continued his education at a community college in Storm Lake where he received training in the carpentry and construction industry. Throughout his career, he was employed as a construction foreman.

On July 28, 1983, Rich married Kimberly Bjorklund at the Evangelical Free Church in Sac City. Their union was blessed with three children: Tiffani, Tyler, and Amanda. Following their wedding, Rich and Kim resided in both Sac City and Newell before making their home in Albert City for the past eleven years.

A member of the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, Rich was known for his deep and abiding faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. Moreover, he deeply loved, honored, and cherished his wife, Kim, finding immense happiness in her love and faithfulness throughout their lifetime together. The greatest joy of life, however, came from his grandchildren, and he valued the time he could spend with them participating in their lives. A very family oriented man, he left a legacy to his family and friends defining the meaning of serving others, leading a selfless life, and giving of himself. To relax, Rich enjoyed hunting and fishing in Linn Grove and along the Sac City, Sioux, and Raccoon Rivers.

Rich’s life will, always, be celebrated by his family which includes his wife, Kim, of Albert City, Iowa; his children: Tiffani (Tony) Menke, of Fonda, Iowa, Tyler (Amanda) Jarvis, of Albert City, Iowa, and Amanda Jarvis and Bobby Hofbauer, of Manson, Iowa; his beloved grandchildren: Seth, Ashlynne, Tate, Braddock, Brenley, and Max; his step-brother, Rob Cretsinger, of Waterloo, Iowa; his sisters: Kathy Sorenson, of Pocahontas, Iowa, and Cindy Sittig, of Rockwell City, Iowa; his father-in law, Darreld Bjorklund, of Albert City, Iowa; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law; as well as by other extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Cretsinger; two mothers: Darlene Woulf and Elizabeth Cretsinger; his sister, Connie Jarvis; and his mother-in-law, Bettie Bjorklund.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
