STORM LAKE PILOT TRIBUNE - Jul 22, 1921 - The remains of Mrs Sarah B Rhodes, former Storm Lake resident were brought to this city for burial from Pierre, SD Saturday. The burial service was held at the Storm Lake cemetery. Interment was made beside her husband who preceded her in death several years ago.

Sarah B St. John was born of fine old American stock at Rochester, NY, April 5, 1835 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs H.M. Reed at Pierre, SD July 13, 1921. She was three months past 96 years of age.

She was married in 1854 to Joseph P Rhodes. Eight children, four sons and four daughters, were born of this union, seven of the children surviving their mother. Seven years after their marriage, Mr Rhodes enlisted in the Federal Army and fought in the War for the Union.

The family went to South Dakota in 1868, first settling in Yankton county and were among the earliest settlers of the state. Later going across the Missouri River to the Nebraska side. Mr Rhodes suffered the loss of practically all of his entire farm through a shift in the channel of the river. After this misfortune the family moved to Sulphur Springs and later to this city, leaving Storm Lake in 1896 to go to the Dakotas.

The last home which Mr and Mrs Rhodes enjoyed together was in the state of Kansas. Since 1911 Mrs Rhodes has made her home with her daughter, Mrs Reed. Although in advanced years, she had been known among her acquaintances as a woman of unusually vigorous mind. Her physical powers had been failing for some months but until very recently, her mental powers showed little abatement.
