STORM LAKE PILOT TRIBUNE - Jun 26, 1930 - Alonzo Rice, long time resident of this community, was found dead behind the ice house at the Carl Foell farm southwest of Storm Lake early Wednesday morning. Mr Foell discovered the body.

Mr Rice had been assisting Mr Foell with the farm work. He had complained Tuesday night of not feeling well. The entire family was aroused by the storm and shortly afterwards, Mrs Foell heard Rice who was in the kitchen ask if she had a certain brand of liniment. When she replied that she did not, he stated that he was in pain but would "walk it off" and he evidently left the house.

Apparently he took soda for remains of the white powder were later found in the bottom of a glass. The family heard nothing more but when they were aroused Wednesday morning, they wondered that the light in the kitchen was burning. Mr Foell found the body shortly afterwards. It was apparent that Mr Rice had toppled forward, probably stone dead before he struck the earth.

Mr Rice was born at Clay City, IL and was 61 years of age on Jan 30, 1930. He grew to manhood and was married there and lived at that place until his removal to Storm Lake about 6 years ago.

He is survived by his wife and 10 children. They are: Raymond, Cherokee; Everett, Mrs Hester Smith, Sylvanus, Storm Lake; Mrs Hattie Scammahorn, Clay City, IL; Ehrman, Storm Lake; Herbert, Truesdale; and Amanda, Luther, and James at home.

One son died in infancy.

He also leaves one brother, Arthur, of Clay City, IL and three sisters: Mrs Laura Hawkins of Pierce, Co; Mrs LaVina Shadle of Clay City, IL; and Mrs Bertha Waldorn of Louisville, IL.

Funeral services will be held from the German Methodist church in Storm Lake Friday afternoon. Burial will be in the local cemetery.
