STORM LAKE BUENA VISTA VIDETTE - Jan 10, 1908 - August Roekowsky, who death occurred Wednesday, January 1 at his home in this city, was born in west Prussia, Germany August 22, 1836. He came to this country in 1870, and resided in Philadelphia 3 mo. when he moved to Iowa had established a home for himself and family on farm in Maple Valley township this county.
In 1885 he suffered stroke of paralysis, which rendered him helpless and deprived him of the faculty of speech. In 1900 the family moved to Storm Lake.
Deceased was, during his active life, a man of unusual energy and ability, ideal of duty, and a manner that inspired confidence and won the respect and earnest friendship of all who knew him. He loved his family and that they all returned his affection was instantly shown by the tender and loving care which was given him during the 23 long years of helplessness.
Indeed the fortitude with which this strong man suddenly rendered helpless, bore his affliction through these years, was even more than equaled by the loving, uncomplaining attendance of his wife upon whom the greater part inevitably fell.
He was the father of twelve children, seven of whom died in early childhood. Those living (who have adopted the Americanized family name) are Charles G. Kaskey of Manson, Iowa; Fred Kaskey of Maple Valley; William Kaskey of Holyoke, Col.; Mrs. Willman Getzmeyer at Maple Valley; and Mrs. Tillie Clancy, Cal.
The funeral was held on Sunday from the German Lutheran church, Rev Haendschke, officiating.
