Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - November 15, 1978 - Mrs. E.H. Melcher, 85, Storm Lake, passed away early this morning, Nov. 15, at the Buena Vista County hospital. She was well-known in business circles in the area having been associated with her husband, the late E.H. Melcher, in their Furniture Company and Gift Shop. Mrs. Melcher was active in community and church organizations. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and the White Shrine.
The former Eleanor Tweedt, she was born Jan. 18, 1893, in Estherville. She attended school and grew up in Roland. There she taught rural school until she was married to Ernest Melcher on Dec. 26, 1912. She came to Storm Lake as a bride and her entire married life was spent here. Sliefert Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, E.H. Melcher and Charlotte Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Mary Helen Conley, Storm Lake; four grandchildren, Gary and Sharon Melcher, Phoenix, Ariz.; Tom Conley of Des Moines, and Dawn Conley, who attends Simpson College at Indianola; six great grandchildren; three sisters in California and a sister in Roland; a brother in Cleveland, Ohio.
