Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - October 12, 1967 - Ernest H Melcher was born in 1885 at Beacon, Iowa. His early boyhood days were spent in Oskaloosa where he learned the plumbing and heating trade.

He came to Storm Lake in 1912 and worked as the foreman of the plumbing and heating for the present junior high school. In 1913 he went into the plumbing and heating business for himself. He sold this business in 1931 and entered the furniture business which he operated until 1962 when he retired. He was a 50-year Mason, a member of the Shrine and interested in civic affairs throughout his active years.

He passed away at a Cherokee hospital early Monday forenoon, Oct. 9, 1967, after a week's illness with pneumonia. He was 82 years of age.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor, a son, E.H., Jr., of Phoenix, Ariz., a daughter, Mrs. Mary Helen Conley of Storm Lake, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Hughes-Nelson funeral home at 2 p.m. Oct. 11 with the Rev Robert Boell of Lakeside Presbyterian church officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Vera Coulson at the organ, and Merle Oxley, soloist. Bearers were Aikin Tymeson, W.E. Boyce, Wendell Pendleton, Harry Schaller, E.E. Owen and W.B. Bauer. Interment was in the Storm Lake cemetery. Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home Oct. 10.
