Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Jan 28, 1932 - Charles H. McDiarmid, one of the best known residents of Storm Lake where he had lived for nearly 47 years and served as city street commissioner for 14 years, died at his home, 403 Ontario street, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the age of 75 years. He had been ill for 9 months.

Charles Henry McDiarmid was born at Harris Creek, MI Sept 7, 1856, where he grew to manhood and received his education. He moved with his family to Tamarae, IL at the age of 20 years and on Oct 15, 1884 was united in marriage to Miss Julia Brockway.

Mr and Mrs McDiarmid observed their golden wedding anniversary on Oct 15, 1931. The event was quietly celebrated on account of Mr McDiarmids health.

To this couple three children were born. One daughter, Edna died in 1895 at the age of 5 years. The others are Clyde B McDiarmid of Storm Lake and Mrs Robert D Thompson of Vermillion, SD.

Mr and Mrs McDiarmid located on a farm near Storm Lake on removing to this county in 1885. They moved from the farm to Storm Lake in 1895, where he had since resided. For 14 years, Mr McDairmid served Storm Lake faithfully and efficiently as city street commissioner. He was forced to retire from his duties on account of illness.

Besides his wife and two children, he leaves to mourn 5 grandchildren: Lyle and Ted McDiarmid of Storm Lake and Enid, Thomas and Shirley Thompson of Vermillion, SD; two brothers: Melville McDiarmid of Arizona and Ambrose McDiarmid of St John, MI; four sisters: Mrs Christie Findley of Brieterest, Sask, Canada; Mrs Mary McMicken of Plainfield, IL; Mrs Frank Pettitt of Grand Rapids, MI; and Mrs Fred Voris of Sandwich, IL.

Funeral services were held from Lakeside Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 1:30. Burial was in the Storm Lake cemetery.
