Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Apr 21, 1916 - The entire community was greatly shocked on Wednesday morning when it became known that Mrs Schultz Martine had died suddenly at the family home on West Fifth street that morning. Mrs Martine had been troubled with the grip from some time but had not been bedfast. In fact, she had prepared the evening meal on Tuesday. When she awakened at about 6 on Wednesday morning she complained of not feeling well and that she felt faint. Mr Martine got the camphor bottle and supported her and she died in his arms without warning, the heart giving out.
Mrs Martine, whose maiden name was Almeda Bennett, was born in Indiana Jan 2, 1848, and while but a little girl moved with the family to Long Point where she continued to live until 1893 when she came to Storm Lake. On Nov. 22, 1866, she was united in marriage to Schultz Martine, and to them three sons were born, Frank of Washington township, Bert of Sac City, and one son who died at the age of 5 years.
During their 23 years of residence in this city and vicinity, Mrs Martine won hosts of friends to her as she was a most excellent woman in every respect.
Besides the husband and two sons, she leaves two brothers and two sisters to mourn: Mrs John Seward, Mrs Laura Lucas, Alonzo Bennett, and William Bennett, all of Long Point, IL.
Another brother, Samuel Bennett, died but two weeks ago.
Funeral arrangements are being made for Friday afternoon and are to be conducted by the Seventh Day Adventist from Sioux City. Mrs Martine was a life long devotee of this faith.
