Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - Jul 18, 1913 - Lydia Helen Stoelting was born in Sheboygan, WI April 18, 1870. She came to Storm Lake in 1880 and on Jan 1st, 1894 was married to Theodore Marten. One children was born to them, Roland H.
She has been in poor health for a couple of years and this spring it was decided that an operation was necessary. Conditions were found much worse than had been supposed, as she had been an uncomplaining sufferer. For a time it seemed as though perhaps she might regain a little respite, but soon it was seen that this was impossible. Through all the weeks of intense suffering she was patient and uncomplaining and when she knew the end was to come, she met this fear bravely. It was relief to all the relatives and friends to know that Sunday evening about half past five, her suffering was over and she had gone to the place where we are promised that there will be no more pain.
Mrs Marten was a quiet woman outside of her home and relatives and church work, she did not enter into the life about her. She had but little strength and this was used in the duties nearest and dearest. She was a pleasant and friendly woman, always cheerful and never betraying how much effort this cheerfulness must have cost when she was suffering.
In addition to the husband and son, she leaves 5 brothers and one sister. The parents preceded her.
The funeral was held on the lawn in front of the home Tuesday afternoon. The remains were laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery. The busiess houses of Storm Lake were closed from 2:30 to 4:00 as a token of respect.
