Storm Lake Pilot - Dec 7, 1881 - Died at the residence of his sons at Lakeside Farm, near Storm Lake, Iowa on Saturday morning, Nov 28, Mr John Nesbitt in the 86th year of his age.

Mr Nesbitt was born in Belfast, Ireland. He came to St Andrews, New Brunswick in 1823 and resided there 40 years. In the midst of our war, he removed with his family to Cambridge, MA where he resided till his removal to Iowa, last year.

Mr Nesbitt's occupation in life was that of a carpenter for many of his last years, that difficult part of the calling, paneling and finishing off ships cabins. A man of iron frame and uniform health, his life was one of uniform industry as it was also a life of integrity and religion. A member of the Presbyterian church, he was a loyal member, and the Bible was his guide.

For a number of years his health has been declining mainly from impaired powers of digestion and his death, even at his great age, was less from years than from absolute inability to use food needful for life. In all his sufferings no murmur has escaped him but he has constantly thanked God that the blessings of life had been so many and that his wife and children were around him in his close.

The aged partner of Mr Nesbitt survives him, two years his junior and though worn by watching anxiety, it is hoped there may be before her yet many years. With a large family of four sons and five daughters, this was the first death in the family and it made it the sadder that it was an event new to them as a household. Mr Nesbitt had been for 60 years, a member of the Order of Free Masons and the lodge in this place furnished the bearers for his burial.

It is characteristic of human life and of our national life, that the eye which first saw the sunrise beyond the sea should last look upon its setting in a western prairie.
