Mr MacFarland was born in Pennsylvania in 1864, the son of a Scotch Presbyterian minister. Left an orphan at the age of 10, he went to Chicago where he spent the greater part of his life.

For a number of years he was connected with the Clement Bain Clothing company in Chicago. Later he moved to Evanston where he conducted a Hart, Schaffner & Marx Company store for 35 years.

He was united in marriage to Miss Ida Metcalf in 1907. They made their home in Evanston until about 3 years ago when they moved to Storm Lake. Through his business connections and residence in Storm Lake, Mr MacFarland had made a host of friends who extend sympathy to the survivors.

Mrs Ray Jones and Mrs M.A. Armstrong of Newell are nieces of Mrs MacFarland. Attorney Robert Jones, son of Mrs Ray Jones, arrived Wednesday night from Santa Barbara, CA by way of Carroll.
