September 27, 1923 - The Republican Press - Julia A Lee was born in Douglas county, Illinois, November 11, 1899. When she was about three years old her parents moved to Buena Vista county, Iowa, and settled on a farm southwest of Rembrandt, where they lived until they came to Sioux Rapids in 1919.
While the family lived on the farm near Rembrandt, Julia attended school in the country. After coming to town she helped with the work at home and for some time was a clerk in Mr. Gate's store where the people of Sioux Rapids learned to know her as a pleasant, faithful and efficient worker.
Julia was never very strong and well. A sickness, which she suffered when about nine years old, leaving her constitution somewhat weakened. About seven months ago her condition grew decidedly worse. A paralytic stroke made her helpless, and ever since she has grown weaker. Medical skill, the kindness and care of friends could not stop the approach of the grim reaper.
Death and the end came suddenly and without a struggle, Saturday evening, September 22, 1923, she being 23 years, 10 months and 11 days of age at the time of her death.
Her father preceded her into the other world in 1906, also a brother, Ralph, and a sister, Elsie.
She leaves to mourn her departure her mother of Sioux Rapids, and three brothers, John and Robert of Bird Island, Minnesota, and Henry of Webb, Iowa. She was a member, for a time, of the working girls club of Sioux Rapids and at the time of her death was a member of the Rebekah and Royal Neighbor lodges.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock from the home and 10:30 at the Congregational church, Rev. T.M. Higgir having charge of the services. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.
