February 19, 1915 - Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - Jacob Latch was born at Lower Marion, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania, and it was there spent his early life.
He was married to Eliza Jane Thompson and then moved to Piqqua, Ohio. To this union nine children were born and seven of the nine survive their parents, Katie, dying at the age of twenty, and Eliza Ellen at the age of five. In 1859 they moved to Macon, Illinois.
When the war broke out he was called into service. In 1882 he moved here where he has made his home with the exception of two years which were spent in Tennessee.
Mrs. Latch died in December 1910. A short time ago he left for Argenta, Illinois to spend the winter with his sister where he died.
Those of the children who survive him are: Mary E. Lucas; Elmeda M. Smith and Lydia Dinger of Alta; Anna C. Bowers of Benson, Minn; Davis F. of Decauter, Illinois, Jacob T. of Argenta, Illinois; James T. of Grass Range, Mont. All of the children were present but James Latch who was unable to get here on account of the distance. Besides his children he has one brother at State Center and also a sister at Argenta.
Mr. Latch was well known in and around Storm Lake. He made friends where ever he went and no small number regret and deeply feel his loss from their midst. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the G.A.R.
