Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - June 30, 1911 - Mary Boehning was born July 19, 1832 at Pommen, Germany and was married in 1855 to Matthias Lange.
In 1883 they came to America settling for a couple of years in Thornton, IL and then coming to Buena Vista county where they settled on the farm in Maple Valley where Mrs Lange died.
Ten children were born to them but 6 preceded their mother to the beyond. Here also in 1908 the husband died and was buried in the Storm Lake cemetery.
But the wife and mother clung to the home farm. She rented the land but kept one acre and the small house for herself and here lived. Every morning she called up her grandchildren on the Henry Kay farm to tell them she was well.
Monday morning June 19, she called up as usual, expressed that she was in the best of good spirits and in as good health as she could be expected to be. After dinner Mr Henry Kay her son-in-law went over to her house and found her lying unconscious on the floor, having evidently just fallen with a attack of paralysis of the heart.
He at once placed her on the bed and summoned medical aid. She lived until Friday morning and at 7 o'clock, without regaining consciousness, passed away.
The funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church Sunday afternoon, being conducted in both English and German.
Of the living children one, Mrs Friederika Langbein of Hamond, IN was unable to be present, but the other three, Ferdinand and Henry Lange of Slayton, MN and Mrs Louis Kay of Chicago, came and paid their last respects to the kind and loving mother. In addition to the four children there are left to survive her, 43 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The body was laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery beside that of the husband who preceded her and the daughter, Mrs Henry Kay.
