Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - May 1, 1908 - Word was received here Friday morning telling of the death of Mrs Kay at the hospital in Sioux City. Mrs Kay has been suffering for about 18 years from kidney trouble in a light form but the past few years the disease has become very severe, and it was finally decided to try an operation in the hope of relieving her.

She was taken to the German Lutheran hospital at Sioux City and an operation was performed Wednesday April 8th. One of the kidneys was found to be entirely diseased and was removed. The patient recovered from the operation nicely and seemed to rally until it was thought that she would be well and strong. But it proved that the poison from the affected kidney had passed through the entire system and Sunday she began to fail rapidly. Her husband and all her children were there before death came as was also her pastor Rev Haendahke and wife.

The body was brought home Friday and funeral services were conducted at the home on Sunday and at the church. Services were held in both English and German.

Sophia Lange was born in Pomeru, Germany Nov 26, 1856 and came to American with her parents when 12 years of age, settling near Chicago.

May 10, 1873 she was united in marriage to Henry Kay. For 10 years they lived in Chicago and in 1883 they came to Iowa settling on a farm south of the lake where they have since lived.

She was the mother of 11 children, one of whom died in infancy. The others are: Anna, Ferdinand, Fred, Mrs Tillie Sroka of Delmont, SD, Minnie, Amil, Mabel, Emma, Henry and Vina.

In addition she leaves her aged parents, Mr and Mrs Mathias Lange of Hayes township and two brothers and two sisters. One brother and one sister were present at the funeral coming from Chicago and Avoca, MN respectively.
