February 9, 1937 - Storm Lake Register - William Kaufman, 78, a resident of this vicinity for the past 57 years, passed away at his home at 717 Erie street Saturday, Feb. 6.
Mr. Kaufman had been an invalid for the past year and one-half. He was born Nov. 19, 1859 at Cumberland, Maryland, and in the year of 1880 with his parents and brothers and sisters moved to a farm in Grant township. He was married to Hattie Wood in the year of 1882 and made their home on the L.J. Metcalf farm north of Storm Lake for a number of years.
Eight children were born to this union: Mrs. John Vance (Lucy) of Milford; Mrs. L. Shenefelt (Clara) of Divide, Wyoming; Charles Kaufman, who was drowned in Storm Lake in 1903; Mrs. James Osborne (Nellie) of Cedar Rapids, who died in 1918; Roy Kaufman of Storm Lake, Ben Kaufman, killed in France Nov. 7 in 1918, Earl Kaufman of Milford and a baby, who died in infancy. Mrs. Kaufman preceded her husband in death on March 2, 1897.
In the year of 1924 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Emma Carlson. Besides his wife he is survived by the four children, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, four brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Robinson Tuesday afternoon at the Fiscus Funeral Home. Burial was in the Storm Lake cemetery.
