January 27, 1905 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - The sudden death of Frank Kaufman of Grant township has caused great sorrow throughout the county. Mr. Kaufman was in his usual health when he retired Saturday night but while dressing Sunday morning he was stricken with apoplexy and never regained consciousness. Death came about six o'clock Sunday evening.

Frank Kaufman was born in Friesdorf, Germany, November 1, 1829 and was therefore more than seventy five years old at the time of his death. He came to this country when he was twenty-one and located in Cumberland, Maryland, where he worked at his trade, carpentering. There, in April, 1854, he was united in marriage with Anna Leidinger, who survives him, and ten children, all of whom are living, were born to them.

They are as follows: Mrs. Peter Mills of Storm Lake, William of this place, Joseph of Laurens, Mrs. William Mills of Grant township, John who is at home and who farms the farm, Mrs. Harvey Rhodenius of Hayes township, F.S. Kaufman of this city, Bosty whose farm adjoins that of his father, Mrs Joseph Best of Lincoln township and Maggie Kaufman who is at home.

The Kaufman family came to this county in 1879 and located in Grant township, and during these years they have moved but once to the farm ten miles northeast of this city in Grant township. Mr. Kaufman was one of those upright men who commands the respect of all. During his long residence in this county he has established an enviable reputation as a kind hearted, honest and industrious citizen and is held in the highest esteem by a large circle of acquaintances. In his younger days he was a strong, robust man, and to satisfy his desire for excitement and work, he crossed the ocean to this country in a sail boat, spending 3 months on the water.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock and the high mass was said by the Rev Father Hennessy. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.
