Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - March 19, 1980 - Lena Wilhelmina Junkermeier was born March 4, 1894 at Hubbard, the daughter of Carl and Wilhelmina Kramersmeier. She was one of the oldest of 13 children. She received her education in a country school in Grant Township in Kossuth County.

On Jan 2, 1914 she was united in marriage to John William Junkermeier. They resided all their married life in Buena Vista county, her husband John passed away July 22, 1951.

To this union were born 7 children, of whom 5 are living. Children deceased are Mrs Edwin Nielson (Venetta) and Alfred Junkermeier.

Living children are Mrs Alfred Schadendorf (Luella) of Lone Rock; Mrs Carl Benna (Evelyn) of Albert City; John Junkermeier and Louis B Junkermeier of Bakersfield, CA.; and Mrs Omar Smith (Dorothy) of Bancroft; 16 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren, also a step-daughter, Mrs Victor Hertig (Nora) of El Cajon, CA and four surviving brothers.

Lena organized and operated a nursing home in Albert City for several years and retired at the age of 65. She continued living in Albert City until her health failed at which time she entered the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, living there for several years. later she transferred to the Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft where she lived for 3 years, until the time of her death.

Lena passed away at the Heritage Nursing Home on March 5, 1980 at the age of 86 years and 2 days.

Services were held at the Garry Funeral Home, Bancroft on Saturday. Burial was in the Storm Lake cemetery.
