Storm Lake Pilot - October 5, 1882 - For the first time in the 12 years of Storm Lakes history, she is afflicted with a disease that is somewhat epidemic in form and fatal in results...diphtheria. ....

Just as we go to press we learn of the death of Miss Maud, the bright daughter of Henry Holcomb, Esq. We have heard of no new cases and with the improved condition of the weather, it is believed the disease will soon disappear.
