Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - November 5, 1936 - L.M. Holcomb was taken ill on the morning of the 23rd of October and though everything possible was done to assist him, it was to no avail. He passed away on the morning of Oct 29 at exactly the same time of day as he was taken sick 7:45 o'clock, being 76 years and 7 days old.
He was a loving husband, brother, and father, always giving good advice and was loved by all who knew him. He lived in his home with his parents, two years after L.M. Holcomb coming to this state from Jo Daviess Co, IL, where he was born Oct 23, 1860. When his parents arrived here in the spring of 1882 they settled on the farm then owned by Alfred Rydstrom.
In 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Dorothea Shultz of Jo Daviess Co, IL and to this union one son was born, Elwin Garfield Holcomb. In the spring of 1884 he purchased an 60 acre farm across from the home place and has resided there until death.
He farmed quite a few years then took up tiling work which he followed a long time. In 1917 he started his son, Elwin, farming and he worked at tiling and carpenter work also helping on the farm when needed.
About 10 years ago he became crippled having to use a cane and at times a crutch but he was always busy at something. Never known to be sick abed until the last week he lived.
His father and mother, three brothers and a sister, preceded him in death.
He received his education in the public schools at Rush township, Jo Daviess Co, IL and attended writing school there also. He grew to manhood there on a farm with his parents.
Survivors are: Mrs Dora Holcomb and a son, Elwin G Holcomb; a sister Mrs W.G. Simons and family of Osseo, MN; Miss Cora M Hartman who has resided with them for four years.
