Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - June 6, 1979 - George E Green, the son of John and Ada Green, was born on a farm in Shelby county on Feb. 9, 1902. After graduating from the Harlan high school in 1920, he attended Iowa State U (Ames) for four years, receiving a bachelor of science degree in 1924. He began his teaching profession in Varina where he served as principal and vocational agriculture instructor for one year.
There he met his wife Viola Porath, the daughter of the late Dr and Mrs. W.C. Porath. They were married on July 25, 1929.
Mr Green served nine years as superintendent and coach at Kiron, where his basketball teams won many honors. He and Mrs. Green moved to Galva, where he served as superintendent for seven years. They then moved to Storm Lake and he took over the management of the family farms, a pursuit which he enjoyed for the remainder of his life. He joined the Methodist church early in life, and was an active member, serving several times on the local board of trustees. He belonged to several teaching organizations, the Masonic Lodge 309 of Storm Lake, and Abu Bekr Temple Shrine at Sioux City, Rotary Club, and Camera Club.
Mr Green passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 20, after suffering a heart attack.
His wife Viola preceded him in death on March 5, 1978.
On May 26, 1979 he was united in marriage with Evelyn Peer, who is left to mourn his passing. He also is survived by a sister, Mrs. J.A. Curtis of Des Moines, and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Friday June 1, at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist church, Storm Lake, Dr James V Poulsen officiating. Music provided by organist Deanna Larson. Interment was in the Storm Lake cemetery. Attendants were Marshall Robinson, Wendell Edson, Jeff Emerson, Earl Otto, Milo Pedersen, and Clint Horlacher. Hughes-Nelson Funeral Home, Storm Lake was in charge of arrangements.
