Storm Lake Register - December 1, 1959 - Sunday he was flown to Rochester accompanied by Mrs. Gran and a Cherokee doctor. A few hours later he was gone. Storm Lake had lost another well known resident, one who had been a medical practitioner here since September 1919, and a native of Alta.

Services will be held at the Storm Lake Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. C.R. Buckwalter, a close friend of Dr Gran, will conduct the service. Arrangements are in charge of the Hughes-Nelson funeral home. Interment will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery.

Dr. Albert G. Gran was born in Alta September 22, 1889, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gran. His high school education was completed in Storm Lake in 1911.

From there he entered the University of Iowa and graduated with Bachelor of Science degree in 1915. During his college career, he was a member of the varsity wrestling teams and a winner of the western Intercollegiate championship in 1915 in the light weight division.

In 1914 Dr Gran graduated from the Northwestern University with his MJJ degree. He entered the Army School of Roentgenology graduating the following year. Besides being a physician and surgeon, Dr Gran is the owner of the Gran Laboratories and a manufacturer of safety devices and treatment cabinets and inventor of Gran Portable Safety Stretchers, which are used to handle injured on highways, in mills and on the battlefields. Dr Gran in 1930 and to the date of his death was known as a scientific lecturer.

In recent months, Dr Gran had purchased and was operating the former Swallum hospital under the name of Gran Clinic. He also found time to manage the Gran apartments at Fourth and Cayuga.

As well as being a member of the Iowa State Medical Society, he also belonged to the Phi Beta Pi fraternity, Chamber of Commerce, AMA, ACS, AF&AM and will long be remembered for his scientific research and humanitarianism.
