May 10, 1928 - Storm Lake Register - Bass Fultz, pioneer resident of Hayes township and one of the well known and highly esteemed men of the community, died at his home Monday morning of this week at about 8 o'clock, following a several week illness.

Mr Fultz was one of the original settlers in this section, having moved to Hayes township in 1881, where he had since resided. He watched with interest the growth and development of Storm Lake and Buena Vista county and always took an active part in all things for the good of the community in which he lived. Few citizens were held in more high regard than was Mr Fultz and his death is deeply mourned by all who know him.

Bass Fultz was born Nov 24, 1858 in Rossville, Alamakee county, Iowa and spent his childhood days there. He was one of the 12 children of Mr and Mrs John Fultz.

On February 20, 1879 he married Miss Carrie E Stanley and in the year 1881, he and his bride moved to Storm Lake by means of a covered wagon, being one of the early pioneers of the community.

He had made his home in Hayes township ever since. He was held in high esteem by his many friends and neighbors, having taken an active part in the social life of the community, at one time serving as president of the Hayes township club. He will be remembered as a kind friend with a pleasant word and a cheerful smile for all.

The deceased in survived by his beloved wife and their 8 children: Fred Fultz at home, Mrs Imo Batchelder, Winthrop, MN; James Fultz, Storm Lake; Mrs Daisy Anderson, Newell; Mrs Ruby Chamberlin, Fonda; Mrs Alda Haarup, Storm Lake; Earl Fultz at home; and Walter Fultz, Storm Lake.

He also leaves 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and four sisters and three brothers as follows: Mrs Lawrence Foell, Mrs Ira Canon, and Mrs Z Diehl of Storm Lake; Charles Fultz of LaPorte City, Iowa, George Fultz of Lorimer, Iowa, and John Fultz of Joplin, Mo. All the brothers and sisters were in attendance at the funeral with the exception of John and George Fultz.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were: Mr and Mrs Gordon Anderson and baby of Newell; Mr and Mrs Ralph Chamberlin and family of Fonda; Mrs Imo Batchelder and daughter, Clara Bell of Gaylord, MN; Mr and Mrs Charley Fultz and son, Carlton and daughter, Corrine of LaPorte City, Iowa; Mrs Will Chapin of McGregor, Iowa; Mr and Mrs Earl Kelly of Waukon, Iowa; Mrs Dan Bowman and son and daughter of Fort Dodge; Miss Ada Anderson and Mr and Mrs George Anderson and Mr and Mrs Elle Anderson of Newell; George Ockman of Nemaha; and Dr and Mrs Simonsen of Cherokee.
