January 11, 1901 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Another honored and respected citizen of Storm Lake has gone to his reward. Death has again laid its heavy hand upon a happy home leaving the shadow of sorrow and sadness to take the place of sunshine and happiness.

R.S. Darr died at his home in this city Monday at 12:50 p.m. from an attack of spinal meningitis from which he had suffered about three weeks. Mr. Darr, who was at the time of his death a member of the firm of Darr & King, proprietors of the Storm Lake laundry, was a man of highest qualities, honest, industrious, loved and honored by all who knew him. During his residence of two years in this city he had won a host of friends, friends good and true who honored him for his manhood. Honesty was one of the strong traits of the deceased character. Although not a member of the church nor a professional Christian yet Mr. Darr was a man possessing many of the attributes of such a life.

Riley S. Darr was born in Linn county, Iowa, August 6th, 1856. Here he lived, following his occupation of farming, until about seven years ago when he removed to Algona, Iowa.

He was married June 11, 1884, to Miss Margaret A. Park, also of Linn county. Five children were the result of this union, four of whom are living: Pearl, Leona, Hazel, and Harold, one dying in infancy.

During their residence at Algona Mr. Darr was engaged in the laundry and machine business. In April of 1899 they came to Storm Lake where the deceased engaged in the laundry business in company with A.A. King under the firm name of Darr & King, they having purchased the laundry business of Fisk & Son.

Besides a wife and children to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father, the deceased leaves a mother Mrs. K.E. Darr; two sisters: Mrs. W. Pulls, of Des Moines, Mrs. B.A. Grosjean, of Windom, Minn.; and two brothers: Reese, of Des Moines, and Wm. of Cedar Rapids.

The funeral, conducted by Rev. D. Williams of the college, was held from the house Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment being made in the Storm Lake cemetery.

Mr. Darr was a member of the order of Mystic Tollers and carried $3,000 insurance in that order.
