February 20, 1919 - Storm Lake Register - Mrs Joseph A. Dean, one of the old pioneer residents of this city and well known by all the older settlers, died at the Samaritan hospital in Sioux City late Thursday afternoon of heart trouble and complications.

Mrs Dean came to Storm Lake in the year 1870 and lived here for 20 years moving to Sioux City in the year 1890, where she has since lived, and where she has been prominent in many club and social circles and has been head of the Samaritan training school for more than 20 years. The remains were brought to Storm Lake, Friday evening and interment was made in the cemetery here. The following is taken from the Sioux City Journal of Friday.

Mrs J.A. Dean, 80 years old, a resident of Sioux City for nearly 30 years and a prominent club woman died late yesterday afternoon at the Samaritan hospital of heart trouble and complications. Mrs Dean was at the head of the Samaritan hospital training school for more than 20 years and was one of the first leaders of the Unity club, one of the first prominent literary clubs of the city. She was a member of the Political Equality club and up to the time of her death was prominently identified with the DAR, the Travelers club, and the Universalist society.

Mrs Dean who was Augusta C Robinson before her marriage, was born in Easton, Mass July 24, 1838. When she was about one year old her parents moved to near Peoria, Ill. where most of her girlhood and young womanhood was spent.

August 21, 1865 she was married to Joseph A Dean, who as a first lieutenant, served in the Civil war. She accompanied her husband to Vicksburg, where they remained for nine mouths, when Mr Dean procured his discharge from the service. After a few months residence in Illinois they moved to Storm Lake in 1870 coming to Sioux City in 1890.

Mrs. Dean is survived by her husband and two children, Miss Eva Dean and O.S. Dean; a sister, Mrs I.F. Kleckner of Sioux City; and two brothers, Judge G.S. Robinson, of Storm Lake and J.L. Robinson of San Francisco.

The remains were brought to Storm Lake for interment on Saturday morning.
