January 1, 1904 - Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - Mrs. Julia E. Crockett, who in the company of Mrs. M.J. Totman left for California a few months ago, died December 19, 1903 at Long Beach, California, of heart disease, the age of 77 years, 2 months, and 14 days.
The body arrived here Saturday and the funeral was conducted Sunday at 2:30 at the Baptist church by Rev. Will K. Sloane of the Lakeside church, Mrs. Sloane sang "The Ninety and Nine" the favorite song of the deceased. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the Storm Lake cemetery.
Mrs. Crockett was born in Winthrop, Maine, October 5, 1824. Later she went with her parents to Lowell, Mass. where she was married to Mr. Crockett, who for over twenty years was overseer of the Boot Corporation. In 1870 they moved to Dubuque and a few years later to Newell and then to Storm Lake. They were among the pioneer settlers in this county.
A few years ago Mr. Crockett died. Mrs. Crockett has been in poor health for some time and went to California in the hopes of being benefitted by the climate. For a time she seemed to grow stronger but the improvement was not permanent.
She leaves one grandchild living, Bert S Lewis, her only child, a daughter, having died several years ago.
When she was but sixteen years of age she united with the Free Will Baptist church and was a member of the same till she united with the Christian church here. She was an earnest worker in the W.C.T.U., the relief Corps, and was also a member of the association "Daughters of Liberty". She was of a generous disposition and gave freely liberally to all benevolent institutions and for the spreading of the gospel.
