February 2, 1899 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - In the death of Amos F Crockett, the cause of Christianity loses one of its most faithful and devoted members and the community loses one of its most amiable and Christ like neighbors and friends.
Amos F Crockett, a pioneer of Buena Vista county, died of progressive paralysis after a long and painful illness. He was born March 1st, 1823 in Meredith, N.H. After moving to Lowell, MA., he united in marriage with Miss Julia C Woodcock, the result of that marriage was two children, neither of whom are now left to mourn him.
In the year of 1870, Mr Crocket with his family came west settling in Dubuque, Iowa, when they resided for three years, then moving to Newell, Iowa and from then came to Storm Lake, thus making him a resident of Buena vista county for years.
He died January 30th, aged 75 years, 10 months, 29 days. A wife, two sisters, and a grandson, besides a host of friends who mourn his departure.
Mr Crockett became a Christian early in life having united with the Free Will Baptist church of his native city at the age of 16, remaining a member of that church until he united with the Church of Christ at this place thus giving to the service of the church and his God nearly 60 years of his life. He was never ashamed under any circumstances to avow his faith. In praise of Christ and by deeds rather than by words let his work be known. Mr Crockett was a faithful friend to all that was good and noble.
On Dec 16th, three years ago Mr and Mrs Crockett and daughter, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. A large concourse attended the services at the Christian church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The services were conducted by pastor Clark Bateman.
