July 8, 1904 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Mary Russell was born in Herefordshire, England, May 20, 1821. She died on June 29, 1904, aged 83 years, one month, and nine days.
She was married to Thomas Cole in 1848 and came with him to America in 1851 and first settled in Canandaigua, N.Y., where they remained two years after which they moved to Will county, Illinois. From Illinois they moved to Iowa and for some time lived on their farm in Grant township from where they moved to Storm Lake where Mrs. Cole resided until her death.
Her husband, Thomas Cole died in 1898.
She leaves to mourn her loss eight children: Geo. W, Edgar J. and Sidney L. Cole of Grant township and Alfred T., of Alta, Edwin P, of Manhattan, Illinois., Mrs. Agnes E. Morse of Newell, Mrs. Lillie Soeth of Grant township and Miss Mary A. Cole, who has always remained with her mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Cole united with the Methodist church at New Lenox, Illinois, fifty-one years ago and since that time have been consistent members and able workers in the church. Through her long illness the strong hands of the sons and affectionate daughters administered to her every want, and they were all present at her death bed. She will also be mourned by twenty-one grandchildren and a large company of neighbors and friends.
The funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church on Saturday afternoon the funeral sermon being preached by the pastor, Rev. W.J. Carr. The Pilot-Tribune joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
