April 5, 1895 - Storm Lake Pilot - Mr. Andrew Cochran was buried on Saturday last from the home of his son-in-law, D.H. Genung, of Washington township. A goodly number of the neighbors assembled to pay the last token of respect. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. MacAllister, who also read the following biographical notes prepared by a son of the deceased, Rev. Cochran, of Lincoln, Nebraska, who had come to attend his father's funeral.
Andrew Cochran was born in Vermont, Sept. 9th, 1811. When about 22 years of age he married Mary Lowater, with whom in 1836 he moved to Erie county, Ohio, where he lived for eight years, when he again moved toward the setting of the sun and became a pioneer in the new state of Indiana, settling in the heavily timbered county of DeKalb, where he lived for a quarter of a century.
After four years of that pioneer life he was suddenly bereaved of his wife, the companion of his youth, and for a brief period he returned to his former Ohio home where he made the acquaintance of and married Lydia S. Stocking, who now after sharing with him the toils and hopes of forty five years of earthly companionship, survives to mourn his loss. In 1869 he sold his Indiana home and moved to Kane county, Illinois, thence in 1880 to this state, since which time his home has been with his children, residing here and in Nebraska and Illinois, alternately.
He was the father of nine children, three of whom preceded him to the spirit world; the others remaining to cherish his memory.
He died March 28th, 1895, the years of his pilgrimage being eighty-three, six months, and nineteen days.
