September 17, 1925 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Mrs Philip Baumann, a resident of Storm Lake and Buena Vista county for the past 42 years, and one of the most well known and beloved women in the community, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs Henry Peters, 424 Otsego street, last Friday evening, Sept 11, at 9 o'clock, following a short illness and her death is deeply mourned by her relatives and hosts of friends.
Catherine Richter was born at Trenton, Butler county, Ohio March 20, 1839 and died in Storm Lake Friday Sept 11, 1925 at the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 23 days.
On Feb 14, 1865, she was united in marriage to Mr Philip Baumann at Hamilton, Ohio and the first years of their married life were a farm near Clinton, Dewitt county, IL. In 1883 Mr and Mrs Baumann came to Iowa and they lived on a farm which Mr Baumann had purchased in Maple Valley township, for many years.
In 1904 they retired from active farm life and moved to Storm Lake where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Feb 15, 1915. In the fall of that year on Nov 11, 1915, Mr Baumann died, leaving his widow with the children.
Mother Baumann, as she was familiarly known, was loved and honored by her children, who tenderly cared for her in her old age, especially during her illness of about one week's duration, and also by all who knew her.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters, and by many other relatives and numerous friends. These are the members of her family: Mrs and Mrs C.H. Baumann and son, Melvin; Mr and Mrs Ed Baumann; Mr and Mrs C.H. Peters and daughter, Viola; Mr and Mrs Henry Peters and daughters, Opal and Gladys and son, Homer, all of Storm Lake; Mr and Mrs H Koerper and son Russell and daughter, Vera of Sheldon, Iowa. There is also one great grandchild.
Another daughter of the deceased, Mrs Lincoln Guerney, died a few years ago leaving a son, Bert and two daughters, Elsie and Maleta.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the St John Lutheran church.
