Juanita Bjorklund
October 7, 1912 - September 15, 1995Juanita Bjorklund, 82, of Newell, died on Friday, September 15, 1995, at the Buena Vista County Hospital, Storm Lake.
Juanita was born on October 7, 1912, in Chester, Arkansas, to Samuel and Anna (McCubbin) Furlow. Baptized at the First Baptist Church, Fort Smith, Arkansas, she attended school at Fort Smith and graduated in 1932. On June 28, 1945, she married Walter Bjorklund at Fort Smith. To their union, two sons were born.
Juanita and Walter farmed in Providence Township in Buena Vista County and joined the Evangelical Covenant Church, Albert City. After Walter died in 1979, she continued to live in the country until she moved to an apartment in Newell in January 1993.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters Inez "Susie" Hansen and Nell Mae Shold; a brother Earl Furlow; two sisters-in-law Esther and Emma Bjorklund; and three brothers-in-law Roy, Arthur, and Elmer Bjorklund.
Survivors include two sons and their spouses James and Fern Bjorklund and Paul and Brenda Bjorklund, both of Newell; four grandchildren; a sister and her husband Oleta and Bob Hurner, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four sisters-in-law Erma Furlow, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Bertha Bjorklund, of Albert City, Ellen Bjorklund, of Cedar Falls, and Elvera and LeRoy Anderson, of Storm Lake; and two brothers-in-law Clifford Shold, of Albert City, and Elwood Hansen Sr., of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services for Juanita Bjorklund were held Monday, September 18, 1995, in the Evangelical Covenant Church, Albert City, Rev. Terry Mattson officiating. Burial followed in the Fairfield Township Cemetery, Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home, Albert City, was in charge of the arrangements.
