April 13, 1903 - September 8, 1995

Elsa Evelyn Victoria Hall Almquist, was born on April 13, 1903, in Wausau, Nebraska, to George Daniel and Jennie Thorell Hall. She was baptized in Wausau, Nebraska, and confirmed at the Humboldt Park Sw. Ev. Lutheran Mission Church in Chicago, Illinois.

Elsa lived and attended school in several communities including Wausau, Nebraska, Artell, Kansas, Stromsburg, Nebraska, and Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from North Park Academy, Chicago, Illinois, with the class of 1920. Next, she graduated from Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. Then, she taught music and history and coached girls' basketball as well in Boxholm and Dayton.

She married Reuben Emmanuel Almquist on July 20, 1932. They lived in Gary, Indiana, and Perry before moving to Albert City in 1934. For many years, Reuben was the local medical doctor. He died March 10, 1955. They were the parents of three children, Elinor Mae, James Reuben, and Theodore Carl.

An active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Elsa served as a choir member, piano accompanist, and member of the women of the ELCA. She gave private piano lessons and worked for Dr. Babcock and Dr. Long. She was a member of Thursday Study Club and Home Craft Club. In short, she enjoyed playing the piano, singing, reading, and visiting with her family and friends.

Because of her declining health, Elsa moved to Pleasant View Home in October of 1991. There, she enjoyed the staff and the other residents and was thankful for the good care she received.

Mrs. Almquist passed away on Friday, September 8, 1995, at the Pleasant View Home, Albert City.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Reuben; and her brother, Rev. Clarence Hall.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Elinor and James Roberts, of Albert City; two sons and their wives, James and Judy Almquist, of Dubuque and Theodore and Jolayne, of Andrews AFB, Maryland; eight grandchildren, Sarah Roberts, and her husband, Joseph Donaldson, of Iowa City, Christina Roberts, of Garden City, Kansas, Philip Roberts, of Ames; Anthony Almquist, of Des Moines, Lisa Almquist, of Fairbanks, Alaska, Peter Almquist, of Aviano, Italy, Andrew Almquist, of Austin, Texas, and Anna Almquist, of College Station, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Anderson, of Rochester, Minnesota; and a brother, Dr. George F. Hall, of Chicago, Illinois; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Elsa Evelyn Victoria Almquist, 92, of Albert City, were held Tuesday, September 12, 1995, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Albert City, with Reverend Marvin Robeck officiating. Burial was in the Fairfield Township Cemetery, Albert City. Pallbearers were: Tony Almquist, Norm Kinkade, Arlyn Youngberg, Robert Bjork, Phil Roberts, and Doug Youngberg.

The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City was in charge of the arrangements.
