Reuben E. Almquist, M.D.
August 1, 1900 - March 10, 1955ALBERT CITY—Reuben Emanuel Almquist was born in a pioneer sod house at Loomis, Nebraska, on August 1, 1900, to Peter and Ellen Almquist. He was baptized by Rev. George D. Hall and was confirmed in the Free Mission church at Loomis.
In 1928, Dr. Almquist graduated from Rush Medical college. He, then, became a steel mill physician at Gary, Indiana, for six years. In 1934, he came to Albert City to open a medical practice. From 1942 to 1945, he served in the army for three years, mostly assigned to front line duty in the South Pacific. Afterwards, he returned to his practice at Albert City and continued there until his health failed in 1953. At that time, the family moved back to Gary, Indiana, where he practiced medicine with his brother, Dr. Oscar C. Almquist. At Gary, the family joined Bethlehem Lutheran church, Kenneth Farb, pastor.
Dr. Almquist married Elsa Hall on July 20, 1932, at Fergus Falls, Minnesota. They have three children, Elinor Mae at Iowa State college, James Robert at Gustavus Adolphus college and Theodore Carl. Dr. Almquist died March 10 [1955] at the Methodist hospital in Gary, Indiana, just minutes after delivering a baby boy.
Besides his wife and children he is survived by two brothers, Anton, of Elwood, Nebraska, and Dr. Oscar Almquist, of Gary, Indiana, and two sisters, Esther and Ann, of Loomis, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held from Our Savior's Lutheran church in Albert City Monday afternoon with Pastor August P. Lawrence in charge. Rev. Wenger of St. John's' Lutheran church gave a tribute to the deceased. Mrs. Les Young and Howard Johnson were soloists. Bearers were Maynard Johnson, George Anderson, Harvey Harper, Elwood Lampe, Lloyd Anderson, and O. C. Selgehd.
Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Oscar Bjork, Mrs. Lester Johnson, and Mrs. Carl Bjork.
