Storm Lake Register - October 17, 1918 - J.H. Rubin received a telegram Saturday noon, Oct 12, informing him of the death of Calvin Fletcher, who passed away at 5:30 pm on Friday afternoon after a short illness with Spanish influenza.

The remains were accompanied to this city by Sergeant Frank McGuire on Tuesday and private funeral services were held at the Hughes undertaking parlors. The body was interred in the Storm Lake cemetery.

Calvin Fletcher was born April 22, 1895. He was given a home with Mr and Mrs J.H. Rubin for 3 years. For the past 3 years he has been employed in various places and last July he entered the service of his country.

He was assigned to Co 14, fourth battalion, 163rd Depot Brigade and was ready to go overseas when the epidemic, which has taken such a toll of lives, claimed him. Before his death he requested that he be taken to Storm Lake for burial.
