Marian A. Biggins
November 2, 1916 - January 7, 2016Marian (“Grandma Biggins”) left us on January 7, 2016, at the beautiful age of 99. But by then, Marian had gotten so tried, she needed to go “home” to spend eternity with Clayton.
J.J., her oldest great-grandson, recently remarked, “How many kids get to know their great grandmother - and know her well.” Grandma would cherish hearing that. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren so very much.
Marian was born on November 2, 1916, in Hornick, Iowa. Some years later, she, with her three little brothers and parents, moved to Schaller, Iowa, where her dad opened a hardware store. There, she had a picture-perfect childhood with many fond memories. Roll forward to 1940, Marian met her young-farmer, Clayton, at a dance at the Cobblestone. They married in February, 1941, and subsequently became the parents of a daughter, Sandy.
Marian and Sandy lived in Seattle while Clayton served in the Army during World War II. As soon as Clayt was discharged, they came right back to Iowa, first to Storm Lake to the farm, then to Hornick, and finally back to Storm Lake to retire and build their dream home on the lake.
Active in the Methodist church, Marian and Clayton enjoyed many years as MYF leaders. Marian, also, loved to crochet and made Sandy and every one of the kids and grandkids beautiful afghans.
When it came time to leave their dream home, she and Clayton moved to Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa, near Sandy which Marian called home for eleven years before her passing. She loved to read and beat everybody who dared play her at Skip Bo, and please, don’t interrupt her on Bingo day.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Etta and Clyde Prichard, and her brothers, Quinn and Stan Prichard. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sandy; her grandson, Brad, and his wife, Nancy; her granddaughter, Buffy, and her husband, Bo; her brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Nancy Prichard; her brother-in-law, Don Biggins; and her great-grandchildren, J.J, Joe, Nick, Chad, and Paige; as well as dear nephews, nieces, other family members, and friends.
Take care of her, Grandpa ... we love and miss her.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
