Gay Leask
March 1, 1940 - September 26, 2015

Gay Leask, age 75, of Schaller, Iowa, left the bonds of earth and joined her Lord and Savior in her heavenly home on Saturday, September 26, 2015.

Gay, a daughter of Harry Graplar and Marie Guether Reimers, was born on March 1, 1940, in Aurelia, Iowa. Baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Aurelia in 1940 and confirmed in her faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake in 1956, she received her education in the Storm Lake schools, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1958. In 1966, she married Lawrence Leask in South Dakota. To their union, three children were born, Randy, Renea, and Lorrie. For many years, Gay was employed as a bookkeeper, retiring on January 1, 2015.

A woman of great faith, Gay belonged to the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Schaller. As a member of Beta Sigma Pha Sorority, she, also, worked to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Moreover, she joined Lions Club International.

In her spare time, Gay enjoyed crocheting and loom knitting, making many gifts for friends and family. She liked to watch TV and always enjoyed a good game of cards, Euchre especially, with her family. Above all else, she loved her family and always looked forward spending time with them, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who gave her great joy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gay’s memory will be cherished by her sons, Randy Leask, of Schaller, and Ryan (Nikki) Batt, of Council Bluffs; her daughters, Renea Kestel and Lorrie (Dwayne) Roling, of Schaller; her grandchildren: Tera Kestel, of Omaha, Nebraska, Amanda (Russ) Kestel, of Elysian, Minnesota, Bob Kestel, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Katie (Dillon) Kestel, of Des Moines, Iowa, Meri Kestel, of Ames, Iowa, Sarah Miller, of Ames, Iowa, Shelby Miller, of Ames, Iowa, Zach Roling, of Early, Iowa, Crystal (Troy Uhl) Hopkins, of Mapleton, Iowa, Trish (Tim Paullin) Sadler, of Mapleton, Iowa, Brittnee White, and Blake and Baylee Batt, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and three great-grandchildren, Autumn Kestel and Sidney and Lilly Kitto; as well as many extended family members. She, also, will be missed by her many friends, but especially by her special friends, Tom Kestel, Eleanor King, Candy Hartman, and Joe Riley, and by one furry friend, Tia.

Gay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lawrence Leask, and one grandson, Samuel Miller.

Memorial services for Gay will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. A time of visitation will take place at the church on Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until the beginning of the service. There will be no burial at this time. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.
